Why SEUT?
Welcome to Students for Ethical Use of Technology (SEUT). We are glad you’re here, whether you are a student, a parent, a teacher, or a technology professional.
We are Chris and Sharon Haver, the co-founders and executive directors of SEUT. While we are not students ourselves, our jobs show us every day how important it is to educate and cultivate technology leaders who not only create amazing technical innovations, but make sound decisions for our society based on a comprehensive and well-rounded understanding of the impact their innovations will have on the well-being of our society and humanity.
Our vision is that SEUT will soon evolve to empower the students themselves to lead. We envision vibrant communities, both virtual and in person, of high school students who ask bold questions and respectfully challenge — both each other and current technology leaders — the commonly held beliefs and practices in how we utilize and develop new information and data driven technologies.
We want SEUT to ask the tough questions and facilitate courageous conversations about the potential risks and perils of the latest innovations in information and data technology, but also celebrate the amazing advances that are possible because of them.
We have exciting things planned for 2025:
Our inaugural essay contest, open to applications in late January
Amazing guest teachers and speakers who are setting the standard in ethical use of technology
Events for like minded students to connect
Launch of high school chapters and student-led SEUT advisory council
